Review of Winter Wonderland, Chester Racecourse

Ticket Prices
£5 adult
£3 child
12.50 family ticket (4 people)
The entry price to the winter wonderland is fair, considering that the tickets you buy act as season passes meaning that if you go again, you can get in for free, up until 5th January.

Food Outlets
A wide range of outlets, such as fish & chips, as well as European dishes like Goulash and Bratwursts. Freshly made donuts and crepes were amongst the desserts on offer. The prices for these were reasonable - for example £6.45 for fish chips and mushy peas. I opted for a bratwurst hotdog for £5, which seems pricey, but the bratwurst was big enough to share!

Attractions
Most attractions cost additional money, but there is a wide range of things to do - including an ice skating rink, a large fair and lots of christmassy themed attractions for children.

Review
Before visiting the Winter Wonderland, I checked out the reviews from trip advisor and most were not good, average 2/5 stars. Most of the negative reviews seem to centre around the price and the queuing time to see Father Christmas. With this in mind, i had already decided that my children would not see Father Christmas here! With this out of the equation,

Review of Goodwin's Fish & Chips, on Nantwich Road, Crewe

Goodwin's Fish & Chips

Reviewed by: Local Listings on July 2013
. Great food, but overall poor experience

Welcome
I was met with an empty shop when entering Goodwins in early July of this year. It was then around a 5 minute wait until someone realised there was a customer in the shop. An underwhelming welcome did little to make up for the wait.

Price
A large fish, chips, peas and gravy costs £8.50, so slighty more expensive than the average cost.

Quality
The fish are all cooked to order and there's no doubt that the fish they serve up is one of the best in Crewe. The fish tasted great, but they chips were no better than ok.

ExitI paid with a £20 note and received £1.50 change! I queried this and she did realise her mistake and I do believe this was a genuine mistake on her part, but this simply added to the poor experience.

Rating: 3.0

Wheelock Farm New Pricing Structure - 2013

A new pricing structure is in place for Wheelock Farm this summer, which now sees you having to pay for children, regardless of whether they play on the adventure playground or are there simply to view the animals (which was previously free). The cost is now £2.50 per child. There is no cost for adults.

The farm has added a castle maze slide to its wide array of activities for children, so I believe £2.50 is a reasonable cost to pay in comparison to more pricier activities. There are new additions to the selection of animals, as you can see from the picture above - a new breed of piglets!

Cheshire East Council applies for funding ti widen approach to M6 Junction 16

Cheshire East Council has submitted a bid to the Department for Transport for a share of the Local Pinch Point Fund for the below project.

A500 Barthomley Link – widening on the approach to M6 Junction 16

£2.8m widening of the A500(W) approach to the M6 J16 to two lanes for around 500m, with an extra third lane for the last 60m and widening of the B5078 arm to provide additional capacity. This would deliver a £200m GVA (gross value added) boost to the Crewe area.

The Highways Agency in Birmingham has submitted a complimentary bid to increase the capacity of the roundabout and slip roads off the motorway, including traffic signals.

Strategic Case – The A500 approaching the M6 J16 suffers frequent congestion all day and particularly during peak periods. Queues can extend from J16 through the A500/A5020/A531 junction. This widening scheme alone would reduce these queues and, along with the Highways Agency’s proposals, would benefit all vehicular movements at J16.

The scheme would improve access to a number of sites in the Council’s existing and emerging Development Strategy. In particular, this includes the strategic development sites at Basford West and Basford East which will deliver around 1,300 new homes and 6,000 new jobs.

Plans for thousands of new homes, accessed from the A500 corridor and more widely around Crewe, plus enhanced retail and commercial investment through the All Change for Crewe programme, will all benefit from better journeys to and from the M6 and the wider strategic road network.
